Not so long ago, Sony released Firmware 4.80 which was an yet another stability update. Rebug CFW is back as well with a few new features. Of course, the Cobra 7.3 payload isn’t missing from this release. That means you will no longer need the PS2 Launcher to play PS2 game,s you can launch them now directly via the Disc Icon from the XMB and many other cool features! But take a look yourself below.

How to install 4.80.1 Rebug REX/D-REX

  1. Download the Rebug PS3UPDAT.PUP from the official Rebug site (there are two versions, one for CEX and the other one for DEX Systems, choose the one you need)
  2. Create on a FAT32 formatted USB Flash Drive a Folder called PS3, then into this one, another one called UPDATE
  3. Copy the PS3UPDAT.PUP in the UPDATE Folder.
  4. Plug in the usb flash drive to your PS3, Go to Settings > System Update and install it.
  5. You’re now done and can setup the CFW.

Like all Custom Firmwares, you can only install 4.80.1 Rebug if you’re already running a Custom Firmware, or Official Firmware 3.55 and below on your PS3!

  • System Update
    Update using the PS3™ system's [System Update] feature.

  • Do not turn off the PS3™ system during an update. If an update is cancelled before completion, the system software may become damaged, and the system may require servicing or exchange.
  • During an update, the power button on the system front and PS button of the controller are inactive.
  • From the XMB™ menu, select (Settings) > (System Update), and then press the button.
  • Select [Update via Internet], and then press the button.
  • The system automatically searches for and finds the latest version of the update data.

  • Download the update data.
  • If a new version of the system software is found, an update is necessary. Press the button to start downloading the update data.
    Follow the on-screen instructions to perform the update.

  • Confirm that the update was successful.
  • After the update has been completed, go to (Settings) > (System Settings) > [System Information].

    If the [System Software] field displays the version number of the update, the update was successful.

  • Update Using a PC
    Download update data using a PC and save on storage media* or a USB Mass Storage device. Copy the update data to the PS3™ system's hard disk drive and perform the update.
Update data download procedure
  • Create a folder on the storage media in which to save the update data. Using a PC, create a folder named “PS3” on the storage media or USB device. Within the PS3 folder, create a folder named 'UPDATE'.
  • Download the update data and save it in the 'UPDATE' folder created in step 1.

  • The system automatically searches for and finds the update data saved on the storage media or USB device.

  • Start the update.
  • Press the button to start the update. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

  • Confirm that the update was successful.
  • After the update has been completed, go to (Settings) > (System Settings) > [System Information].

    If the [System Software] field displays the version number of the update, the update was successful.

    Hint

    You can delete the update data from the storage media or USB device after the update has been successfully completed.

  • Update using disc media
  • Use the update data included on a game disc to perform the update.

Update procedure

If a screen prompting you to update is displayed when you start a game, you must perform a system software update to start the game. Select [Yes], and then press the button to start the update. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.
